Welcome to Soi Safari Lodge
Soi Safari Lodge is located on the Western shores of Lake Baringo in the Rift Valley in Kenya, where it commands spectacular views of Lake Baringo, nestling in a bushy acacia with the compound partially patched with rocks to portray the lodge's originality.
The lodge is on the shores of the fresh water Lake Baringo at Kampi Samaki, surrounded by bushy acacia trees and a rugged, majestic scenery. Lake Baringo, approximately 168sq Kilometers, is a major tourist attraction.
To the east of the Lake is the Laikipia escarpments and to the west rises the dramatic Tugen Hills. Built with the latest technology and design with a tinge of local touch, the lodge looks cool and is an ideal Safari Getaway. The compound is spacious with trees lining up the front of the lodge.
At the back is an Olympic size swimming pool, surrounded bushy acacia and at the lakeshore a rocky, dry and sparsely populated environment. Our guests definitely enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Baringo.
We welcome our guests with cool fruit juices in the comfy, rugged lounge at the reception area. The rooms are spacious and air-conditioned. The Lodge has 74 standard rooms, 4 accessible rooms (for disabled persons), 2 interconnecting rooms and 6 deluxe en-suites. All have hot showers and balconies with spectacular views. Our four course gourmet meals are blended with African cuisine for that rare, delicious taste. The lodge has very beautiful murals on the walls with an authentic African look.
Soi Safari Lodge has a great view of Laikipia Escarpment across Lake Baringo. There are seven majestic islands that rise above the water, including the famous Devil's Island.
The lodge can also be accessed by air, either via an airstrip that is within 2km of the lodge or a helipad at the lodge.
Lake Baringo
Tucked away at the bottom of the Rift Valley is Lake Baringo, a bank of natural wonders yet to be exploited as a getaway. The beauty of Baringo and her surrounds is legendary — spectacular sunsets, a dazzling array of colourful bird life and Njemps fishermen.
The lake is one of the two freshwater lakes in the Rift Valley in Kenya, the other being Lake Naivasha. It lies off the beaten track in a hot and dusty setting and over 470 species of birds have been recorded there, occasionally including migrating flamingos. A Goliath heronry is located on a rocky islet in the lake known as Gibraltar. Additionally the area is a habitat for many species of animals including the hippopotamus, Nile crocodile and many other mammals, amphibians, reptiles and the invertebrate communities.
There are seven islands on the lake, namely Lokoros, Rongena, Lengai, Samatian, Olkokwa, Parmolos and the Devil’s Island. It's the myth of this deserted island that most find interesting, as communities in the area have given it a wide berth. According to the Njemps, no one lives on the island following beliefs that it is the home of devils. The locals claim a bluish fire burns in the area at night and the devils call out names of people who dare row around the island after sunset.
Fishermen drawn from four communities — Njemps, Turkana, Pokot and Tugen — avoid the waters around the island lest something bad happens to them. Ironically, unlike most fishing expeditions where a boat has at least four fishermen, it is one per vessel in Lake Baringo. Furthermore, the fishing vessels are made from hollow indigenous trees, which enable them float despite looking so unstable.
